Kápolnapuszta – Buffalo Reserve

The reserve plays an important role in the survival of the buffalo, which is considered native to our country, and in preserving its gene stock, while at the same time being a popular centre for presenting the species.

Here lives the largest buffalo herd in our country that can be visited. A telescope helps visitors observe the animals, with which the lucky ones can see, besides the wallowing and grazing buffalo, the nimbly scurrying ground squirrels as well. In winter, the buffalo are in and around the stable, in the corral, where they can be observed up close. A signposted walking path leads through the reserve, which is open all year round, and a playground and a petting zoo await the little ones. In the stable, old photographs and the tools of traditional buffalo keeping can be viewed. The exhibition set up in the reception building presents the rich wildlife of the Little Balaton.
