Szigliget Castle
The castle on top of Szigliget's Castle Hill was not built for the panorama at all in the mid-13th century, but by the 21st century – especially since its renovation in 2013 – it is a fact that this has become its main attraction, making it worth visiting for this alone. From the top of the medieval castle ruins, you have a beautiful view of the witness hills of the Balaton Uplands, Lake Balaton and the opposite shore.
One of Hungary's most visited and deservedly popular castles, Szigliget Castle, on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, now looks back on 750 years of history. To the south it is washed by the shore of Lake Balaton, while to the north it is bordered by the peaty meadowland and hills of Tapolca. From whichever direction we approach Szigliget, the old castle comes into view from everywhere. Szigliget Castle is one of our few castles that never bore the Ottoman sovereign insignia on its towers during the Turkish period. Its brave soldiers preserved its independence for 150 years. It was destroyed only by Habsburg hatred, which blew up its walls.
The castle of Balaton has been renewed and awaits you and your family with even more to see. An excursion, a hearty walk for the sake of the beautiful panorama, a relaxed summer evening concert… and a thousand more experiences. Come and walk around, discover and explore this attraction set in wonderful surroundings, and enrich yourselves with an extraordinary experience.
