Sacred Heart of Jesus Church

On the road leading towards the row of wine taverns, we can see the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Egregy, which many also call the "green church". The church was built according to the designs of architect János Bocskai. The bell tower was built at the beginning of the 20th century, and the nave in 1994–95.

The bell tower was originally two storeys high and was built in 1905; the third level was added in 1937. The tower was built in Neo-Romanesque style, its windows are twin windows, and it houses both a small and a large bell. The small bell was cast in honour of Mary Magdalene in 1905. The large bell was cast by the village of Egregy in 1937 in memory of their fallen heroes. In memory of those who died in the First World War, the 16 fallen heroes are listed on the stone tablet in the middle of the tower's facing. In their memory, 16 linden trees were also planted beside the tower, with a wooden grave marker at the foot of each, on which the names and the dates of birth and death were carved. Of the planted trees, only 6 still stand today. A memorial plaque was also placed in honour of the dead of the Second World War, on the wall of the bell tower, which also bears the names of the young people of Egregy who fell. Later, the plaque was moved out into the church garden.

Construction of the nave began in 1994, based on the designs of János Bocskai. It was then consecrated by Dr. Gáspár Ladocsi, brigadier general and military bishop, on 22 April 1995.

The church is also called the "Fradi church", since the Ferencváros Gymnastics Club (Ferencvárosi Torna Club) provided significant support for its construction. The close connection with the club is reflected in the interior design by the white and green colours, as well as by the small memorial corner.
